L'influence de David Gilmour sur le monde de la musique est immense. Chanteur et guitariste de génie David Gilmour a toujours eu le souci d'offrir des productions solos qui témoignent de son génie créateur. Celui qui a été classé comme 6e « meilleur guitariste de tous les temps » par Rolling Stone et « meilleur musicien sur guitare de tous les temps » par Fender, revient après neuf ans d’absence avec un nouvel album, « Luck and Strange », son cinquième album studio. L’album a été produit par David et Charlie Andrew, réputés pour leur travail avec ALT-J et Marika Hackman. La plupart des paroles ont été écrites par Polly Samson, collaboratrice de Gilmour depuis trente ans. Samson déclare à propos des thèmes abordés sur "Luck and Strange" : "C'est écrit du point de vue de l'âge ; la mortalité est une constante". L'album comprend huit nouveaux titres ainsi qu'une magnifique reprise de "Between Two Points" des Montgolfier Brothers.
